Image
Golf seems like a mild, gentle game, does it not? And in many ways it is. However, don’t let that fool you into thinking that you can’t get hurt playing golf. Just because no one’s around to hit or block you, it doesn’t mean you can’t get injured. Perhaps, the best comparison we can think of is working out in the gym. While you’re alone doing your thing, you can still hurt yourself. That’s how it is with golf. Image source: shipsticks.com Let’s take a look at how to avoid injuries while playing this beautiful game. Posture As with many sports, good posture is the foundation of golf. You’ll spend hours trying to hit a ball on the ground with a club. In doing so, you’ll be putting a lot of stress on your back – from your neck all the way down to just above your glutes. A lot of new golfers complain about back pain after a long day of golf. To prevent this, golfers have to practice perfect posture and form. Image source: shipsticks.com Exercise When...

The professional golf world ended 2017 on a happy note with the return of its enigmatic prodigal son Tiger Woods. Woods played his first PGA Tour at the Hero World Challenge, over four years since his last win. It was also his first competitive action since undergoing spinal fusion surgery.  Image source: golfchannel.com For the many watching fans and golf aficionados, just seeing Woods back in competition is enough. The sport has missed his intense putting, solid swings, and fist-pumps. But, as expected, these trademark Tiger gestures were few and far between. Back surgeries are often deal breakers in the sport, and Woods has had his share. Given, too, the many dramas surrounding his personal life, it’s surprising and laudable that he is still keen on getting back into winning form.  But can Tiger Woods indeed return to the PGA Tour leaderboards? Many critics are doubtful and advise that we temper our expectations. While Tiger himself has come back fr...

Stay Healthy By Playing Golf

Image
Image source: amarillomagonline.com Golf may not seem like a sport that builds muscles and raises endurance and stamina. It may not improve a person’s physique the same way boxing does, or even football or basketball. It may not be as physically demanding as Greco-Roman wrestling or going through a triathlon. But there are definite health benefits to be reaped from the beautiful sport, though they may not be obvious at the get go. Take for instance your respiratory health. All that fresh air that occupies the greens can only be good for your breathing. Your lungs will be more than grateful for a few hours in the open. Couple this with the serene surroundings and you have a place that’s perpetually stress-relieving. That in itself is worth the price of admission if you ask me. Image source: justjared.com As we mentioned earlier, golf may not be track and field, but you do need to do an insane amount of walking. That’s a very good thing, especially for peop...
